Merlot is a red wine grape variety. This French variety is native to the Bordeaux region. It thrives in clayey-lime soils. It is a moderately to very vigorous variety, moderately susceptible to disease, sensitive to low winter temperatures and spring frosts. Fertilization is not always the best, where in certain climatic conditions there is a risk of flower shedding and clusters becoming loose.
Pairing red wine with food is a real challenge. Merlot is a perfect choice for a variety of dishes, going great with dark meats, pork, beef, game dishes, as well as dishes that contain more aromatic sauces.
